In a world full of modernization we should take a step back and look at one of the most iconic classics of not only Shakespearean canon but of theatre history. The Tragedy of Macbeth is that classic play that mirrors our modern world politics and dynamics. By looking back we can, in many cases, see our modern world. We can listen to the words of George Santayana, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” and to quote the misquoted Mark Twain, “history doesn't repeat itself but it often rhymes.”
We as a society are moving at a shocking pace forward, almost to the point of being blind to the mistakes made by those in power and even us who have little. Macbeth points us to that image that we’re missing. Macbeth the character is much closer to us than we can ever realize, we all want more and many of us are willing to sacrifice a great amount for that. Macbeth the man shows us the problem with that and even more so the problem of the corruption of power when we finally get it. -The Macbeth Team
