Woman & Scarecrow is by the award-winning Irish playwright, Marina Carr. A woman, with a stained past that's made her bitter at the world, lies patiently on her deathbed. In her wardrobe looms a deathly entity waiting to take her. Her only companion is Scarecrow, a spiritually-connected being that has accompanied Woman her entire life and now sits with her until the end. Woman and Scarecrow look back at their shared history and bicker over the many choices they've made, slowly coming to terms with their identity. Woman & Scarecrow is a Faustian tale enriched with Carr's poetic dialogue and gothic atmosphere. THE NEW YORK TIMES calls it "a blistering beauty of a play that rages with regret and pitch-black humor at the wasted years of a misspent life."

Woman & Scarecrow features Tracy Ferguson ’22, Kierstin Jones ’21, Kiersten Bjork ’21, and guest artist Liam Bray. It will be directed by Park Lytle '21 with costume Designs by Julianna Gentile '22. It is co-produced by Park Lytle '21 and Kierstin Jones '21.

Woman & Scarecrow is Theatre Fairfield's annual Independent Project, which is sponsored by the Jamie Hulley Arts Foundation. Each year, advanced theatre students have the opportunity to apply for a grant from the Jamie Hulley Arts Foundation to produce an entirely student-run production at the start of the Spring semester. Upon approval from both the theatre faculty and the Jamie Hulley Arts Foundation Board of Directors, students put the lessons they have learned as theatre students at Fairfield to create a full theatre piece on their own. The project teaches students to put their production experience into action, free to problem-solve, and collaborate amongst their peers.

Due to the current regulations in place because of the pandemic,
